Webinar: Attendant Care Under the New Michigan Auto No-fault Law

Date:  Friday, February 26 from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM

Audience:  Those providing care for auto accident survivors including family members, caregivers, home health and care agencies, and residential living care facilities.

Topics Covered:  Attendant care limits under the new law,  the fee schedule, accreditation requirements, and Utilization Review Rules, understanding the difference between attendant care and replacement services, transportation, and the importance of documentation – why it is critical to justifying care, tools, and guidance to keeping good detailed attendant care documentation.  There will be a brief discussion about fraud and surveillance used by insurers concerning attendant care and a panel discussion on interactions with insurance claims adjusters.

Panelists:  Attorney Katie Tucker, Partner Sinas Dramis Law,  Maureen Howell, RN, BSN, and fulltime caregiver for her son Sam, and Heather Kluemper LPN, CBIS, and Teresa Hiatt, LPN, from Optimal Medical Staffing & Home Care - sharing best practices from a home health care agency perspective.

Panelist Bios:

Catherine Tucker, Partner Sinas Dramis Law - Katie is a personal injury attorney who specializes in advocating for the rights of individuals who have been seriously injured or killed in Michigan auto accidents, motorcycle accidents, pedestrian-motor vehicle accidents, and slip-and-falls, and for the rights of their medical providers. Katie leads the firm’s no-fault medical provider practice group. In that role, she diligently pursues claims for payment from no-fault and other insurers for unpaid charges for treatment rendered to injured patients by a vast array of Michigan medical providers.

Maureen Howell, RN, BSN, – Maureen has years of medical experience as a trauma nurse, burn nurse, burn educator for Northern Michigan, Trauma Nurse Manager, Neuro-Nurse Educator, and TBI care provider for her son, Sam.  She has been an inspirational speaker and currently serves as the organizer for PANIC (Parent Against No-Fault Chaos) advocacy group.

Teresa Hiatt, LPN, – Teresa has over 25 years of experience in healthcare, cardiac, long-term care, rehab, and homecare. Over the last 7 years, Teresa has been working with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) clients.  Her responsibilities at Optimal Medical Staffing include oversight and compliance of licensing and accreditation for Homecare and Adult Foster Care.

Heather Kluemper, LPN, BS, CBIS,- Heather serves as the Chief Operating Officer and Nursing Supervisor of Optimal Medical Staffing and Home Care. Prior to joining Optimal, she served as Clinical Manager of La Bella Vita, a post-acute home for patients with TBI and SCI.  Heather specializes in TBI, SCI, neuro rehabilitation and was the former director of LIVEstrong.
