MBIPC launches #teampromise campaign showcasing the faces behind consumer protections that are at the heart of the No-Fault Auto Insurance Promise

Campaign comes just as Michigan Legislature votes to gut auto no-fault

BRIGHTON, Mich.— (May 9, 2019)—With Michigan’s no-fault system under attack like never before, the Michigan Brain Injury Provider Council (MBIPC) today announced the launch of the #TeamPromise campaign, aimed at telling the stories of survivors impacted by treatments afforded by no-fault and showcasing the efforts of the ethical, committed care providers who help them thrive.

“We named our campaign #TeamPromise because auto no-fault is a necessary promise to the people of Michigan,” said MBIPC President Tim Hoste. “It a promise that if you’re involved in a catastrophic auto accident, you will get the care you need to help you return to a productive life. It is a promise that you or your family won’t have to choose between bankruptcy from medical bills or life-saving care. “With new attacks on the auto no-fault system, the time could not be more urgent for educating Michigan residents on the benefits of Michigan auto no-fault and what it means for accident survivors.”

The announcement comes the same day that the Michigan House of Representatives voted in the middle of the night to gut protections for consumers by raiding rules that have for decades guarded auto accident victims from being abandoned in the face of a catastrophic auto accident. More than 300,000 auto accidents occur in this state each year. Caps on medical coverage in other states do not even begin to cover a fraction of the costs associated with a traumatic injury — but in Michigan, accident victims receive the level of care they need.

The campaign provides information about what the MI Auto Insurance Promise means for drivers, and it features inspiring stories from accident survivors who have received therapy and rehabilitation and been able to return to their productive lives thanks to the care that the auto no-fault enables. The campaign, which includes a story database housed at MIAutoInsurancePromise.com as well as Facebook and Instagram pages, will help Michigan voters understand why this promise needs to be protected.

Among others, the story database highlights the story of 10-year-old Jamal and his provider, Dr. Edward Dabrowski, of whom Jamal’s mom says, “I don’t know what we would’ve done without him.”

“While we recognize that comprehensive reforms to the auto no-fault system are needed in order to reduce auto insurance rates in Michigan, we also know that there are many routes to lowering rates that do not involve slashing coverage for accident victims,” Hoste said. “We hope our #TeamPromise campaign and story database sparks important conversations around ways we can ensure all Michigan drivers can get behind the wheel with the peace of mind that should they be involved in a catastrophic accident, they will be protected.”
